Hi,

thank you all for your help.

I finally made it. My linux-AP is up and running on a PCI-bridged i-gate M11
PCMCIA-card (prism2 chip).

Perhaps somebody is interested what were the stones on the way:

starting linux 2.2.14 , pcmcia-3.1.24 , linux-wlan-ng-0.1.7

1. src-addon prism2dl for wlan-ng-0.1.7 was needed, and of course the AP f/w
t10003c7.hex (thank you ..)

2. installing pcmcia AND building and installing wlan-ng-0.1.7 with src-addon

3. applied now Davids src-patch for the PCI-bridge instead of pcmcia-activation
, rebuild of the modules--> starting the modules 'manually' insmod p80211.o and
insmod prism2ap_cs.o because there is no pcmcia activation!

wlan-ng.opts:

4. NO Bridging in AP mode, instead ifconfig wlan0 <ip-number> up. So wlan0 is a
normal NIC device

5. NO User MIB Settings comment it: #USER_MIBS="" and #p2RoamingMode=2"
(thank you..)

6. NO WEP enabling :  dot11PrivacyInvoked=false

wlan-ng:

7. modifing to get the pcmcia stuff out ==> no start of 'network and getinfo'

Two things are remaining:

A.When I upload a large file (215MByte) via ftp-transfer from the linux-AP to
the STA-Windows98 client the average transferrate is 455KByte/sec. Through my
monitoring tool on the Windows98 client I watch every 15 sec. a dropdown of the
link for about 1-2 seconds? (Link Quality normal at 40% and Signal Strength at
40 % drops to zero! ) This happens ONLY during the transfer not in the idle
periods where nothing is transfered.Why?

B. What is wrong with WEP? When I enable it both -AP and Client- are using the
same keys and the same default key. The scanning of the client to locate AP
fails if WEP is forced on both sides. If I then disable the WEP on the client
side the AP -despite it is configured:
        dot11PrivacyInvoked=true       # true|false
        dot11WEPDefaultKeyID=0          # 0|1|2|3
        dot11ExcludeUnencrypted=true # true|false, in AP this means WEP
                                        # is required for all STAs
        # Use the generator string to generate keys (just a convenience)
        PRIV_GENERATOR=/sbin/nwepgen    # nwepgen, Neesus compatible
        PRIV_GENSTR="blabla"
-is found but no ping/ftp-transfer Client/AP is possible. Why?

Thank you all for your help.

Regards

Rainer
