Just write it off to a frustrating experience and be sure that you are wiser next time. For example, be sure that this new guy who is so anxious to do it, really knows how to weld waterproof seams. Don't scare him away, but grill him to be sure. We've all heard of 5 to 10 k body restorations that leakes like seives on the first swim. Also, get a firm schedule in writing from him if possible so he doesn't push it out into the street in six weeks when he gets frustrated, and by all means aside from a reasonable deposit, and progress payments, DO NOT PAY THEM TOO MUCH UP FRONT. Once the cash is in hand, a great deal of the incentive moves on to the next job. Good luck! These things come full circle. Yes, Kharma is a powerful thing. I am not a litigous person, but when it comes to blatent disregaurd for other's (my) property, I get very upset. More often than not, I just write it off. However, there is more to Matthew's story that anyone wants to know. So I will let it go for now butleave my options open for the future. We had a very in depth (no pun intended) conversation. He is going to weld in all sheetmetal and holes. He is visably excited to work on it. So much so that he is giving me an $8hr discount! I don't expect it to be perfect, but presentable and useable. I was looking at a 2000 Cobra Ken just finished with just 32 miles on the clock. Some kid took it for a test drive and plugged a tree head on @ 60MPH. I wouldn't buy it because of the damage, but you can hardly tell it was ever damaged from below or above. I plan on paying him "on the fly" as progress continues. He has me scheduled to start the job by Wednesday and he asked for 2 to 4 weeks for completion. One wire alternators are usually not recommended and are intended for cars with high idle speeds. It will act as a generator at low idle and probably won't charge at idle or low rpm's. The current bodyman says that the surface rust will add between 20 to 40 hours to the bill. Getting it out from behind the dash and in all the places will be tough at best. So after much deliberation, I feel that Matthew should realize that this will not be tolerated and could have been avoided easily by one of two things (either one would take only minutes); 1 - Telling me in at the outset October that he did not want to take the job 2 - Spending 2 minutes to cover it up with a tarp. If he didn't have one, I would have went and bought one immediately. He just called and refuses to take any responsibility what so ever. I even gave him the opportunity avoid all this by removing the rust he allowed to form. He refused, and so it goes..... The Amphi list came into being on July 27, 1998. Some of the initial members, besides myself, included Bill (Bilgemaster) Connelly, David Chapman, Randi Tusone, Mike Echeman, and Doug Parsons. In the early days most of the messages revolved around the high price of Amphi parts. Of course there were also some inspiring stories such as Bilgemaster's exorcism of the mice who had taken up lodging in the Old Bouy. We all learned to envy Mike Echeman for his ability to find low mileage Amphis that had never seen water. Still, at that time I was not sure if the list would stay afloat! The challenge used to be in getting people to post, these days the challenge is keeping up with the messages. As of today there are 3,444 messages not counting the first six months before we started archiving. (those do actually exist on a retired, dusty computer somewhere in my basement). As of today, we now have 178 list subscribers. The list was formed for the purely selfish reason that I wanted to buy an Amphi and could not find much information. These days Amphipoda provides us with everything we ever wanted to know but were afraid to ask. Mission accomplished!
