Ok, I just got my Linksys cards (they look good - dual LEDs, and dual
voltage 3.3V/5V)

The way I really want to use them is either in ad-hoc mode (which I
understand is not currently supported by linux-wlan-ng - any ETA, Mark?)
or with one card as an access point (AP).

>From what I can find on the 'net, running it as an AP requires some
extra software, including AP firmware that loads onto the card.

Looking at http://www.intersil.com/prism/ss/p2smtrx.asp, it has an entry
for "CMAC AP Tertiary Firmware":

"This is special firmware which the host (either a PC or a hardware AP)
must download into RAM on the Prism2 card, which allows the NIC to take
on limited AP tasks. For a Software AP, you must obtain AP bridging and
host AP software (e.g.Lunix) (sic)"

It also says that the license and maintenance fees are $0 for site
license and "open distribution" so I assume that that means the firmware
is redistributable.

Well, long story short - does anyone actually have a card up and running
on Linux as an access point with the AP firmware? And if so, do the
terms under which you received the firmware allow you to redistribute
it... to me? :) I'd really like to get these cards up and running.

I also signed up for their "premier" web site, so hopefully I'll have
access to this stuff myself, soon.

Thanks,

-Eric
