So this is the deal, This guy shows up at our shop, he said he needed new
tops for two DUWK that will soon be selling rides in Tampa Bay. Our secretary
interacts with everyone from the horse trainer to the human pin cushion
everyday so two more amphibious vehicles seemed routine. She just directed
him through the shop saying that I was in the shipping department working on
our amphibious vehicles. I use a 6' pallet and a forklift as an "Amphi lift,"
boy that works great. Man, his jaw hit the ground when he saw the two
Amphicars. He says they own 4 DUWK that swim, another that will swim and one
for parts. I guess its a small wonderful Amphi world. Tommy & Lynne in Tampa

In the spring 2001 edition of the magazine Forbes FYI there is an article by
Patrick Cooke, Executive Editor, "saluting the biggest design misfires in
automotive history. " Our beloved Amphicar is the example used for the
1960's. Among other things, the Schwimmenwagen is termed "the decade's
daffy recreational vehicle," "a primitive creature created to return to the
primordial depths," and "neither a good car nor a good boat." How about our
president responding, telling him the number that are still running or
restored and inviting him to view our web page and club membership? Perhaps
ask him if he has checked the present value of these "primitive creatures."
You can read the article at Forbes.com.

Hi all, Has anyone cut a hunk out of the bar on the top frame that you bend
to take the sag out? I was gona bend it today but that kind of remedy makes
me feel a lot like Jed Clampett. This top sags a lot and the bend will be
noticeable. We have great welders that can weld it oh so good. Or I had the
idea to make an adjuster kinda like the brake adjuster bolt thing. It would
replace the rivet/hindge at the rear of that same bar. Then you could fine
tune the frame and remove the sag. There must be a better approach than the
one from the Jetho Bodine school of engineering. Comments Please - Tommy in
Tampa - White 64 "Saggy"
