Dear mgm124@aol.com:

Just like it says at the bottom of every amphicar-lovers list posting you'v=
e ever received, in order to unsubscribe, you simply need to send a blank m=
essage to amphicar-lovers-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com, not amphicar-lovers@=
yahoogroups.com as you've been doing.

Alternatively, you can manage all of your YahooGroups List subscriptions th=
rough their webpage at http://groups.yahoo.com/. Just sign in with your us=

buyers for you. I'd be tempted to trade you this car in the garage!!! Plus
Cash of course.

Yes my fine finned friends, Mermaid & I survived=20
our perilous adventures in Belize and Guatemala.=20=20
In the wake of hurricane Keith those countries would=20
do well to invest in the Amphicar technology. One-
lane dirt roads so rough that they required at least a=20
foot of ground clearance and washed out bridges that=20
demanded snorkels on the engine carburetor. Water=20
ways connecting remote villages and only a short boat=20
trip to explore the barrier reefs. Amphi would have=20
made such a spectacle there that the Belizian people=20
might have named a national holiday in his honor.=20=20
Upon our return it was most comforting to see our=20
Amphi patiently waiting for a swim. Weather permit-
ting we intend to do just that.=20=20
Catching up on the Amphi Lovers Digest was also a=20
priority. Two weeks is a long time to be away and the=20
digest seemed to bubble with great commentaries and=20
advice. Even saw some reference to me in a few postings=20
- an honor indeed. It's good to be home and back with=20
Amphi and all of you again. Must also mention how=20
much we enjoyed reading the Amphi Newsletter. That=20
classic periodical is distended to become a collector's item.=20=20
Also forgot to mention how wonderful Randy's Amphi=20
calendars are! These too will be long held sacred treasures=20
for generations to come.=20=20
And finally thanks to all who sent in names of nominees for the=20
highly coveted Annual Amphipoda Award. My email box=20
was actually pretty well stuffed, as was the digest. Ironically=20
we have a near dead heat tie, so any last minute votes would=20
be greatly appreciated. Best to send them to me direct to=20
(amphipoda@yahoo.com) rather than posting them - the=20
award ceremony is best when it's a surprise to all, especially=20
the winner.=20
And for the benefit of the newcomers to our little family=85=20
remember to completely halt thy rear wheels BEFORE=20
engaging thy propellers. This applies to both land and water=20
shifting - so apply the brakes to a full stop, even in the water,=20
before shifting propellers forward and/or reverse. Failure to=20
do so will hurt Amphi internally and emotionally. It will also=20
cost you a few hundred to a few thousand dollars to repair.

Subject: Ockham's Razor

There are some lessons that I need to learn over and over again. What
could a 12th century Catholic Theologian have to do with Amphicar
maintenance? A few weeks ago I notice that the driver's side door was
getting increasingly difficult to open and close. A few times it took the
full force of my shoulder slammed against the door to pop it open, and with
each closing, a terrible jamming sound.
My mind raced. Finally the frame of the Amphi has given away, and the
car is sagging in the middle making it difficult to open and close the door=
,
I reasoned. Next, I imagined the door hinge welds have failed causing the
door to sag. Or maybe the door itself has finally succumb to old age and i=
s
twisted or out of square.
Ockham suggested all of those years ago that if a problem has multiple
explanations, the most likely explanation is the simplest. Today I checked
the door closing cog-gear. It was so gummed up with old dried up grease an=
d
rust preventing undercoating, that I couldn't budge it. I took the whole
assembly out of the door and cleaned it up with a solvent. I re-lubed with
some self-cleaning bicycle chain lube guaranteed not to gum up. The door
works like it just came off of the show room floor.
Three steps forward, two steps back, that's my pattern. Sometimes (but
not always) repairs go better than expected.

HI, I just wanted to tell you two things.
The NAPA part number and description for the blower is "750-2194 blower." I=
t=20
cost $27.38 The outer thing is that yesterday after the car show (we won) w=
e=20
wanted to swim Snappy. The weather conditions made the windshield fog up=20
badly. We turned on the defroster and the dandiest thing happened, it worke=
d.=20
The windshield cleared, we could see again. You can hear the blower just a=
=20
little. You may want to wire it to its own switch so you can run only the=20
stock blower at times. Tommy in Tampa
