Hi Folks, SoundTool version 2.5 is available for anonymous ftp at: 129.69.1.12 /soft/incoming/pc sndtoo25.txt & sndtoo25.zip I will put a copy on cica when it is up again. SoundTool 2.5 now has support for: SOU: raw 8-bit linear sounds SND: Sounder & SoundTool raw 8-bit linear sounds SNP: SoundTool packed 8-bit linear sounds TXT: ANSI Text files, 8-bit range 0...255 NXT: NeXT 8-Bit and 16-bit uLaw sounds AU: SUN 8-bit and 16-bit uLaw sounds IFF: Electronic Arts 8-bit linear samples VOC: 8-bit linear samples found inside VOC files WAV: Microsoft Multimedia 8-bit linear sounds I have tested it under Windows 3.1, it runs with DSOUND.DLL under 3.0 and 3.1. Registered users can get drivers for SoundBlaster and all Multimedia Extension driven devices. Martin. Anyone interested in creating their own Sound Effects for Windows 3.1 may want to check out WAVEPOOL. Wavepool is a "C" (AWK) like language with built-in math and sound-wave functions. WAVEPOOL also comes with 14 sound effects that you can modify yourself! I've tested the generated WAV files with Windows 3.1 using a Sound Blaster and they work great. The WAV files also sound fine using the SPEAKER.DRV driver if you don't have a Sound Blaster card. Be sure to set the speed correctly for "PC Speaker Driver" in Set-up. On my 386/33 system system, a speed of 265 is about perfect. Tweek the speed until CLOCK.WAV ticks 1/sec. I have uploaded WAVEPOOL.ZIP to snake.mcs.kent.edu:/tmp and wuarchive.wustl.edu:/MSDOS_UPLOADS. You should be able to FTP it from these locations. If you don't have FTP access, you can download WAVEPOOL from Exec-PC, CompuServe (WINADV or IBMNEW) or from our BBS at 614-888-8056. The current version of WAVEPOOL runs under DOS and only creates .VOC files, so you will also need VOC2WAV.EXE to convert from VOC to WAV. Here is what you need to get from wuarchive.wustl.edu: /MSDOS_UPLOADS/wavepool.zip /MSDOS_UPLOADS/speak.exe (if you don't have Sound Blaster) /mirrors2/win3/uploads/VOC2WAV.ZIP BTW: Wavepool programs are small ASCII files that can easily be sent via e-mail. If you create some nice sound effects, please mail me a copy :-) Have fun, Brian Lockrey brian@aicorp.uucp
