Well, I just posted an article about how I found out how to speed WC up. Unfortunately I think all that was happening was that the game was skipping frames. :( I quickly cancelled the article so I wouldn't be flamed to death for my stupidity. If the article didn't make it to your site, here's basically what I did: Set system speed to low with turbo switch, then started WC; when the orchestra appeared, I pushed the turbo button back in and the game played twice as fast as before (this is on a 386-33). I didn't think it was skipping frames because the action was so smooth, and people in the bar as well as the commander in the briefing room talked and moved twice as fast too! I thought the frame skipping was only done in space; but when I got out to space I set the frames to '0 frames skipped' and when I came back to the ship people had slowed down to their normal selves. Since I had to recalibrate my joystick at the beginning I thought something was built into the program to lower the speed on fast machines when it started up. Oh well... As a consolation prize, try this: At the "CONTINUE COMPAIGN" screen enter 'j' to calibrate your joystick, then press a button for centering it, then for the upper left calibration only move your joystick 1/3 to 1/2 way toward the upper left corner (not all the way) and press a button; for the lower right do the same thing--move the stick 1/3 to 1/2 way to the lower right and press a button. Be sure to keep both movements the same distance from the center so the calibration will be equal. By doing this you will dramatically speed up your turning ability in space. I haven't tried it out extensively, but from what I've experience in the one time I've tried it I can turn about 50% faster! I have yet to see the overall maneuverability against various Kilrathi ships. PS I *still* am curious about what happens on other systems when you start WC with system speed set at low. (Be sure to calibrate your stick afterward if you do this because it will screw it up.) Steve Smith smsmith@hpuxa.ircc.ohio-state.edu
