One of the next logical steps in DCNS's work in promoting use of MITnet is to provide network access to members of the MIT community who have need to access network resources remotely. To begin work on implementing this, the Blue-Box group has been chartered. This group has the goal for this fiscal year of establishing a pilot dialup pool that will provide TCP/IP and Appletalk access to MITnet. Currently the group is evaluating server equipment, looking for devices that can scale to allow providing the service on a campus-wide level. The Blue-Box team currently consists of the following people, with plans to ask for representatives from other IS areas as the project progresses. Michael Barrow Mark Curby Paul Hill Bob Mahoney Chris Murphy (team leader) Any comments or questions for the group can be sent to blue-box@mit, which is archived in the blue-box discuss meeting on menelaus. Meetings of the group are scheduled on this list, and are open to interested people.
