To: ew9105@ewing.ldgo.columbia.edu Subject: Hi! --text follows this line-- Dear Helen, If you get this please respond right away, mail to you has been broken for several days. So first, here's a message that was bouncing..... ---- Dear Helen, Hi love! Sorry to hear about the ping-pong match... Prevoiusly my PC was a 286, so this is a step up. The only annoying part is that I had pretty much decided to not upgrade, but the machine had other plans.... Interop in October looks pretty definate. I may be going early to help setup, hopefully in return for free hotel. The only problem is that the conference ends the day before John's wedding, so I don't know if I'll make it. I did see Rich's motorcycle, it turns out that he bought it in CT and is registering it there for some reason. So until he gets good enough to ride back to Amherst, it's in Newington. No, it doesn't seem like a year! Wow.... I'm glad to hear things are more relaxed this trip, I think you need it after that last couple of days here! Nothing excitingly new in the bike department, been riding around almost every day. The bike is due for it's checkout about now, I have to call the shop today. Mark, Alison, and I are planning on giving the lake another try this weekend. Just hope the weather cooperates. Plus we need good weather for the airshow the following weekend. Did I tell you about that? A Soviet Mig-29 will be there, and for $10,000 one can buy a ride for 10 minutes. Maybe I should play the lottery...... Well, take care, and I'll be thinking of you! Love & hugs, Chris ----- Okay, that's out of the way. I made it to the lake this weekend, was quite nice. Got a bit of a sunburn, somewhat more of a tan, and finished the new Clancy book. Pretty good I think. Alison is reading it now, Jon is next in line, and has been told to finish it by October. Speaking of spy books, you may have heard about a coup in the USSR. Seems that Gorby's VP took over, either assisted by or put there by the military. Yeltsin has demanded Gorbichev be reinstated, as has Bush. Yeltsin is also possibly getting a lot of popular support and apparantly some military factions as well (bit unsure about the last part). Doesn't look pleasant in any event. Closer to home, Hurricane Bob came by Boston for a visit. Not much damage here, or at the folks back in CT (although part of the neighbor's chimney tried to go thru my window there), but the Cape got hit pretty bad, especially in the islands. Don't know the extent of the damage, but power is probably out quite a bit there. Other than those things, life is quiet at the moment. Looking forward to the airshow (wonder if the Mig will still be there?) I may also go to the lake with the Hampsons again for Labor Day. I had dinner at Mary's tonight with Jon and Anne, and have decided that we probably are not any wierder than they are. Well, before Columbia complains about long messages, I'll call it an evening. Have to go in early tomorrow. Take care, and I hope to hear from you soon! Love, Chris
