so what kind of video board does your friend have?  nextstep is very  
sensitive to what video board you use (a next problem, not a display  
postscript problem).

my point was not that DPS is the fastest possible way to handle graphics, but  
rather that it was fast enough, and that the programming and printing (and  
whatever else) benefits more than compensated.  if performance were the only  
goal, vsta would be written entirely in assembly optimized for andy's 386.   
usability is important too, and that is where DPS totally crushes X.  do a  
little DPS programming and a little X programming and see for yourself.
