CONSULTANT III- HELP TEAM AND DEPARTMENTAL COMPUTING (JOB #95-0879A)

Provide highly technical consulting, troubleshooting, needs analysis,
software and hardware evaluation, training, and documentation on
information technology to MIT clients. May serve as a project leader for
assigned projects; manage and direct needs analysis; design and develop
specific solutions and specifications; and troubleshoot on complex
computing issues and problems. The Consultant will play a leadership role
on teams that provide technical support to users of MIT's complex
network-based computing environment. Initially, 2/3 effort will be on Help
Team and 1/3 effort on departmental computing. Tasks include diagnosing and
resolving technical problems; conducting requirements analyses;
recommending hardware and software solutions; configuring hardware and
software; testing and evaluating new hardware and software products;
managing complex projects; and presenting seminars and writing
documentation. Duties may also include maintenance of hardware, software,
databases, technical references, and tools.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or
equivalent combination of education and experience. Five years direct
experience with variety of microcomputer and workstation platforms,
especially Windows. Experience with network hardware and software and
familiarity with networking protocols such as TCP/IP necessary. Experience
with Novell NetWare desirable. Experience in an I/T help desk environment
highly desirable. Should have strong service orientation with excellent
oral, written, organizational, and interpersonal skills, as well as project
management experience.


CONSULTANT II- DESKTOP WORKSTATION SUPPORT SPECIALIST (JOB #95-0880A)

Provide consulting, troubleshooting, needs analysis, software and hardware
evaluation, training, and documentation on information technology to MIT
clients. This Desktop Workstation Support Specialist will be responsible
for documenting, tracking, and resolving any reported desktop workstation
problems. Resolution may require assessing symptoms on the problem desktop
workstation and/or demonstrating use of the equipment and software. Clients
are the MIT reengineering staff and consultants. Responsibilities include:
desktop workstation hardware and operating systems (Macintosh and IBM);
desktop workstation connectivity (Ethernet, telephone); desktop workstation
facilities (printers, file servers); application software (acquisition,
integration, support, maintenance, deployment, and version control);
conformation of software to MIT infrastructure and cross-platform
requirements; and equipment preparation for demonstrations and travel.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent
combination of education and experience. One to 3 years direct or 2-5 years
related experience. Strong communication skills and ability to work with
multiple teams. Hands-on experience with problem assessment,
prioritization, troubleshooting, and resolution. Technical experience with
networks and with Macintosh, Windows, and UNIX.
