   Java JDK version to me so we can try to get datagram

Okay, okay!  :-)

I ran the code as you asked, and nothing happens.  Specifically, the server
prints out its port number and waits indefinitely, while the client exits
immediately without comment.

I running Randy's pre1 version of the JDK, Linux 1.3.37, and libc 5.2.12.
