I for one would not be thrilled -- I am all for requiring any kind of 
upgrades to libraries and such, but I have to use this system for a 
number of other things and running kernels outside the 1.2.* series is 
not something I'm looking forward to.

But if you think that's the right solution, do it anyway; I can 
deal with inconvenience in light of the coolness of Java.
