Subject: New Solaris disk partitions
Date: Wed, 06 Dec 1995 14:42:34 EST

I hear more and more requests for larger AFS cahes or larger swap partitions
on the Solaris Work Stations we athenize. When we started the buisness of
athenizing Solaris Stations , the hard disk available to us was 400MB. Now
most of the times we have at least 500MB hard disks available.

I propose to change the way we partition the hard disk on the Solaris Athena
Stations at installation, taking away from the 300MB of /var , 100MB, and giving
50MB more to the /swap and 50MB more to AFS cache. This will bring the /swap to
100MB and the AFS cache to 100MB.

I am waiting till Monday before I modify the installation . If I do
not hear any objections, starting with Monday all Sparc stations we install
(or reinstall) will have 100MB for /swap, 100MB for the AFS cache and only
200MB for /var.

I repeat , if I do not hear any objections, the new partition tables for
Solaris w.s. will become a fact on Monday.

Miki.
