  True, but only if the older stuff does not hinder development where the 
newer stuff would help it. I had the impression that newer kernels allow 
some things to be done in a more elegant manner (eg. threading?). Besides 
which, the JDK itself is FAR from stable, working software. It will take a 
while before the JDK settles to a stable state, and by that time we will 
most likely have a stable version of the 1.3 kernel.

  Anyway, didn't Randy say he'd already decided on 1.2? So this whole
thing is moot. The question I have now is how does Randy's port relate to
the Sun/Netscape one. The latest netscape has Java support for linux, so I
expect they have done at least a partial port themselves. Any 
news/insights on this?
