As a way of educating myself, and helping others, I am volunteering to maintain
a Java On Linux HOWTO.

As maintainer of the Linux Distributions HOWTO, I have experience at this
sort of thing, and there is at least some evidence that I can do it right.

The HOWTO will be maintained in linuxdoc-sgml and will be available as an
HTML document in the usual way.  

I hope those of you more knowledgeable than I will help me do a good job with
this, if only so that you will only have to answer the annoying newbie
questions *once*.  :-)

Initially, I am soliciting informed answers to the following questions.  I
am aware that some of this is covered in the README on blackdown, but I
want to make sure I get timestamped current information written with the
newbie in mind.

1. How can I get the latest Linux distribution for Linux?

2. What kernel level support libraries will I need to run Java, and how can
   I get them?

3. Where can I find documentation on Java and HotJava?  What is a good order
   to read the documentation in?

4. What mailing lists exist for supporting Java on Linux?

5. What parts of the Java sources are freely redistributable, and what are
   not?

6. Do I need Netscape?  Can I use Netscape?

I welcome suggestions for more questions -- and, of course, well-written
answers.  I am preparing a draft HOWTO now, and will post it for 
discussion and expansion shortly.
