We're running a V5 beta 4.3 KDC here and are having a big problem.
It seems that any ticket whose lifetime extends past midnight GMT
tonight (Jan 1 1996) causes V5 kinit to give:
kinit: KDC reply did not match expectations while getting initial credentials
If I change the date to yesterday on the KDC machine and do a kinit
there, it works fine. If I change it to Jan 2, it still fails.

So it looks like either something is overflowing when it comes to
1996 or there is a timebomb somewhere in the code.

Does anyone have any pointers? We'll be looking through the code. :-)
