For some servers it is necessary to get the MIME type right. Each
document served via HTTP comes with a header specifying its MIME type.
Typically if a server doesn't recognize the file name suffix it sets
this to "text/plain". This is clearly wrong for a java applet. I
think most clients and some servers ignore this type, so everything
works, but it is a good idea to get it right.

There will presumably at some point be a specific MIME type for java
applets. At present the correct type is "application/octet-stream".
How you get your server to use this type for files with suffix ".class"
depends on which server you are using. But the sysadmin should be able
to do it.
