Hi,

I'm new to the list, but thanks to reading through the archives I've
managed to get my JDK setup pretty much sorted out.

My main remaining issue is the debugger stuff - thankfully I've managed
to get it to stop swapping my system to death by making the symlinks for
java_g, and it mostly works. I've also had the Kalimantan graphic
debugger working too. However a debugger that can't single step is not
much fun - so what's the likelyhood of getting a real java_g binary
soon?

Some other minor things:

1) Is anyone else here playing with teikade? It used to be called dejava
and is a pretty cool smalltalk style browser for Java, written of course
in Java. It mostly works with the JDK, but for some reason none of the
single-line textfields are editable, which completely cripples it. They
are editable if you run with the Win32 JDK (however, it's otherwise
badly broken under Win32.) textfields can also be seen to be working OK
with other apps under the linux JDK.

2) Is there any chance of a fix for the cursor blink bug in TextAreas?
The teikade source suggests it's a general problem with the Motif AWT,
and works around it by subclassing TextArea and having its own blink
thread. It would be nice if we could go one better than the Solaris crew
and have it nailed in the JDK itself...

Finally...

Respect due to Randy and anyone else who's worked on the JDK port - in
many respects it works much better than the (Sun supported) Win32 JDK,
once you've gotten past the setup hassles.
