But what was really impressive was his piece "From the King to Queen," in which he discussed the solid line of heredity that connects the likes of Hank Sr., George Jones, Patsy Cline, Elvis, the Eagles, Emmylou Harris, the Byrds and Bob Dylan to the new generation of country artists. The author's genealogy was superb. Hilburn noted that there are those within the country music industry who fear that the pop and rock influence might go too far. While this concern may be justified in some cases, I do not think that there is any likelihood of it happening as long as the Grand Ole Opry exists and as long as artists like Wilma Lee Cooper and Marty Stuart exist. The new music is wonderful and exciting and a tribute to all who came before, but it is the old stuff that feeds our souls and touches our hearts and takes us back to a happier time and place.
