Most of those funds came from Caldwell's own money, which she obtained by selling land adjoining her home in a Boston suburb. Her biggest creditors remain the city of Boston, to whom she owes large judgments for back taxes, and the electric company. Caldwell intends to lead a short spring season, after which monies from state and private agencies will be used to bring the house up to fire and sanitation codes. The company was thrown out of the opera house by creditors and ceased operations in 1990. This article is copyright 1992 The Los Angeles Times Home Edition.
