Both airlines proposed the fare increases earlier this month and had delayed them several times. Competitors have balked at matching the increases. United had planned to raise prices $10 to $40 on unrestricted tickets. The increase would have affected every domestic route the carrier flies. American delayed its increase from today to Dec. 1.
