Codon, 44, was named vice president and general counsel of Unocal Corp. He will continue as Unocal corporate secretary as well as serving as chief legal officer of the Los Angeles-based oil company. Codon began with Unocal in retail marketing in 1974, became administrative assistant to the Chemicals Division general counsel a year later and went to Unocal's law unit in 1979. He became deputy general counsel in 1989. Codon replaces Sam A. Snyder, 62, a 37-year Unocal veteran, who is retiring. Snyder had served as general counsel and vice president since 1985.
