Stalin died in 1953. The translation of remarks by Russian envoy Gen. Dmitri Volkogonov to the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs did not make it clear. But it appears that the two men--whose names were among six to appear on a 1954 list of prisoners--were executed before the list was made; precisely when was not indicated.
