It was the Horned Frogs' first victory over the Longhorns since 1967 and the first at Ft. Worth since 1958. "We were outnumbered and undersized, but our heart carried us through," Horned Frog Coach Pat Sullivan said. "We've got what you call a team now." The victory triggered an emotional outpouring from Texas Christian students, who charged the south goal posts. Their players joined in the celebration, hanging from the crossbar before a large contingent of police finally chased everyone away. One fan was handcuffed. "It's a great win for our program, maybe the greatest," said Athletic Director Frank Windegger, who hired Sullivan, the 1971 Heisman Trophy winner. Texas (5-3, 3-1) pulled within two points in the third quarter when an interception by Grady Cavness at the Texas Christian 15 set up Curtis Jackson's one-yard scoring run. But TCU (2-6-1, 1-4) got its third interception as Rand stepped in front of a Texas receiver, caught the ball in stride and broke a tackle for the touchdown.
