"I couldn't sleep," he said. "I went to bed about 12, woke up at 1 and couldn't get back to sleep, so I just thought, 'the hell with it, I'm going to go in and watch tape. . . .' "When you're laying there in bed, there are thousands of things running through your mind about why did this happen, why did that happen? So why not just come in and find out why it happened, because it's right there on the tape." * USC tailback Dwight McFadden, who ran for 30 yards in 19 carries against Stanford in his first start, will start again Saturday against Arizona at the Coliseum, Smith said. . . . Offensive guard Clay Hattabaugh underwent knee surgery this week and will be out for the rest of the season.
