Conchita Martinez of Spain, 6-1, 6-1, in the Virginia Slims of
Philadelphia.

   Second-seeded Gabriela Sabatini struggled back from 2-5 in the second
set to beat wild-card Lisa Raymond, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2).

   Natalia Zvereva upset sixth-seeded Mary Pierce, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, and
eighth-seeded Lori McNeil defeated Gigi Fernandez, 6-2, 7-5.
