I haven't watched a regular-season NFL or NBA game in years, and the "more winners" philosophy is singularly responsible for this. Why should I waste my time watching a regular-season basketball or football game when half the teams make it into the playoffs anyway? Major league baseball has wisely avoided the dilution-of-competition that results when you allow sadly non-competitive teams into postseason play. May it continue to do so without Bob Oates' blessing. TOM LAVAGNINO Hollywood This article is copyright 1992 The Los Angeles Times Home Edition.
