For a fraction of the designer price, Doncaster, a shop-at-home manufacturer I've featured before, mimics the very popular and very expensive Escada. The Escada sweater at $800 is decorated with blue, purple, fuchsia and emerald stitching. So is the Doncaster version - but for $120 instead. One of my best buys from last fall are these black velour-fitted stirrup pants by Baryshnikov. If you didn't buy them at your local department store then, go now. They're back! The velour gives these pants a rich look, while the spandex makes a slimmer silhouette. These pants look wonderful with a shirt tied at the waist, belted, or loose or with an oversize sweater as I've shown here. I wear mine with inexpensive black suede shoe boots from Kinney, and I can't tell you how many times I've been asked, "Where did you get those?" Some women are visibly surprised. Obviously, they haven't been reading Dress for Less. Today's designer version (left) costs $1,134: * Wool turtleneck sweater with stitched design Escada by Margaretha Ley, $800. * Black velvet stirrup pants by Mondi, $250. * Wool felt fedora by Whittall & Shon, $84. Today's Dress for Less version (right) costs $215: * Black turtleneck with rhinestones from Doncaster shop-at-home manufacturer, $120. * Black velour stirrup pants by Baryshnikov at major department stores, $60. * Black velour beret from Accessory Lady, $35.
