They spent $30.5 million at the nation's theaters to see the film in its weekend debut, making it the best opening for any nonsummer movie and the No. 1 opening in Columbia Pictures' history. Director Francis Ford Coppola's thriller surpassed sales of the previous nonsummer champion, "Ghostbusters 2," which earned $29.5 million in its 1989 debut. "Back to the Future Part II" held the record for Columbia with $27.8 million in sales in 1989. "Bram Stoker's Dracula" was the third-best this year, following "Batman Returns" ($47.7 million) and "Lethal Weapon 3" ($33.2 million), according to figures released by Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc. Here are the estimated top ticket sales Friday through Sunday, according to Exhibitor Relations, with distributor, weekend gross, number of theater locations, average per location, total gross and number of weeks in release. Figures are based on actual receipts and on projections where actual figures were not available. One location can include several screens in multiplex theaters; studios generally do not disclose the true number of screens. 1.
