There's no mention of animals in federal law covering who the Secret Service is authorized to protect, Secret Service spokesman Carl Meyer says. "While the cat is in the White House, he's going to be OK. But when he leaves, he's on his own," Mr. Meyer says. As with other animals that have made the White House their home, Secret Service agents "have no interaction, no responsibility for him," Mr. Meyer explains. "It is nothing we have to be concerned with," he says. "The White House is a secure environment . . . but we're not getting involved in the security of the cat."
