LUNCH BUNCH:

Lawrence Eagleburger was seen lunching recently with David Rockefeller
Jr., caretaker of the Rockefeller family fortune.  Speculation says this is
an indication of where the acting secretary of state will land after Jan.
20.

FIRST FRIENDS:

Now that Linda Bloodworth-Thomason and husband Harry Thomason are
widely recognized as First Friends, they're spreading around a lot of green
stuff to assure the comfort of Bill and Hillary Clinton.  First came the
California vacation house they've made available to the First Family-elect.
And, when Linda and Harry serve dinner today to the Clintons, it will be on
brand-new Spode Blue Italian china - 32 place settings bought for the
occasion.

TYPE CASTING:

That's radical activist lawyer William Kunstler in "Malcolm X", playing
the judge who sentenced the black leader to eight to 10 years for burglary.
He's often getting booed-and "Wild Bill," as he's sometimes called, says he
understands why.

"I looked so mean that I almost booed myself," he tells the Associated
Press.

Although he never represented Malcolm X, Mr.  Kunstler says he met the
Black Muslim leader in 1960.

"I got nowhere because no one wanted to reopen the case," he says.

COUNTRY CAVALCADE:

The country-western crowd is flocking to town this month while First
Fan George Bush still occupies the White House.

Randy Travis, who has often dropped by the White House during the last
four years, is the headliner for "A Country Music Christmas," the USO's
annual benefit Dec.  3 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel.  We'd bet the banjo next
year's will be "Blue Christmas" in honor of Elvis.

Joining Randy will be Republican stalwarts Ricky Skaggs and Secretary
of Defense Dick Cheney.  (The latter is picking up an award, not singing.)

And then at the lighting of the National Christmas Tree, Lee Greenwood
will be crooning.  Also sharing the spotlight with the Bushes: Lucie Arnaz
and Laurence Luckinbill and former "Cosby" kid Keshia Knight Pulliam.
(They're all bunking at the Sheraton City Centre and getting in town a
little early to see the sights.)
