Jesse Jackson's Ledroit Park home. Four men inside a blue Pontiac were fired on about 3:45 p.m. by at least one person outside the car in the 500 block of P Street NW. One of the men in the car also fired his gun, police said. The driver of the car was shot in the head. His car then sideswiped a Mercedes-Benz before crashing into a black GMC pickup truck. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Two of the other men in the car were taken to Howard University Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. The victims were not identified pending notification of family. The fourth man inside the car fled the scene. Police are looking for two men, one about 6 feet tall and dressed in black jeans and a black shirt. Police have made no arrests but took several people in for questioning. S=NEW STORY Lawyer arraigned for assaulting guard Cheryl Stein, a defense attorney with a reputation for aggressiveness in the courtroom, was arraigned yesterday on charges of kicking, biting and scratching a security officer in the offices of the D.C. Court of Appeals. Ms. Stein, 39, was released yesterday on her own recognizance on two misdemeanor charges of unlawful entry and simple assault and was ordered to stay away from the arresting officer, Thomas Cherry. She had posted a $5,000 bond Monday night after spending five hours in a cellblock. According to Officer C.A. Price of the Marshals Service, Ms. Stein began arguing heatedly with a clerk over some documents in the appellate court shortly after the office closed at 4 p.m. Monday. Two security officers asked her to leave and she refused. When Officer Cherry took her by the arm she scratched, bit and kicked him, Officer Price said. One guard said she caused so much trouble while being booked that fellow inmates started yelling at her. Ms. Stein declined to comment on the matter yesterday. S=NEW STORY Officer testifies in Gomez case Metropolitan Police Officer Grisel del Valle crouched down in the well of a D.C. Superior Court courtroom yesterday and swung her arm wildly to show how a drunken Daniel Gomez lunged at her partner with a knife before her partner shot him. The May 5, 1991, shooting sparked three days of rioting in Mount Pleasant when word spread that a Hispanic man had been unarmed and handcuffed when he was shot. Officer del Valle said Mr. Gomez, 30, had tried to escape while he was being arrested for public drunkenness. He wrestled free of a male officer who had managed to clip a handcuff around one wrist, and then pulled out a knife, she testified. After he was shot in the chest - a wound from which he has recovered - he fell to the ground, rolled from side to side and dropped the knife, Officer del Valle said. Another officer then cuffed his hands together. Mr. Gomez's attorney has argued that the shooting was a mistake by a nervous rookie and that police officials have masterminded a cover-up to limit their liability.
