Sullivan, 50, a lawyer for CBS, died Oct. 20 at his home in Falls Church. He had AIDS. A native of Springfield, Mass., he grew up in the Washington area and attended what was then Francis Hammond High School in Alexandria. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science at Georgetown University in 1964 and a law degree at the University of Texas at Austin in 1967. Mr. Sullivan joined the Navy in 1968, serving on the Denver, an amphibious landing ship. From 1969 to 1972, he worked as legal counsel to the commanding officer of the Naval Security Group Command in Washington. From 1972 to 1974, he was a staff attorney at the Federal Communications Commission in Washington. He was then recalled to active duty in the Navy and worked for the Navy Legal Service Office in San Diego. He left the Navy in 1976 after being promoted to lieutenant commander. He joined the law department of CBS' West Coast section and worked there as a senior attorney until this year, when he retired and moved to Falls Church. Survivors include his parents, Dolores and John L. Sullivan of Falls Church; five brothers, John L. Sullivan Jr. of Altus, Okla., James M. Sullivan of Springfield, Va., Mark F. Sullivan of Arlington, Kevin M. Sullivan of Chicago and Brian E. Sullivan of Rockville; and a sister, Mary Sharon Gregory of Whitefish Bay, Wis. Funeral services were held Oct. 23 in Falls Church, with burial in a family plot at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Scranton, Pa. This article is copyright 1992 The Washington Times.
