Thompson has been promoted to vice president of sales and marketing in the retail division of Compute-Rx. Mr. Thompson was formerly director of national accounts with National Data Corp. in Atlanta. Compute-Rx develops and markets software for pharmacists. Three key officers were appointed to Mellon's Private Bank in Rockville. Joanne Abell, William E. Lauer Jr. and James M. Stuart have been named vice presidents. Ms. Abell has been appointed to business development, Mr. Lauer to investment management and Mr. Stuart to lending services. Ms. Abell previously held banking positions at Palmer National Bank and American Security Bank. Mr. Lauer has been portfolio manager for the Trust and Investments Department at Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh since 1989. Formerly the manager of the Private Banking Group at Riggs National Bank, Mr. Stuart joins Mellon as vice president of lending services. Christopher C. York was named executive vice president of management for Project HOPE, the international health education organization in Chevy Chase. Mr. York is a lawyer and principal of the New York management consulting firm C.C. York & Co. Snyder, Newrath and Co. of Bethesda named Betsy Schmidt senior consultant. Philippe C. DeMol was named catering consultant for Culinary Delights by Feist, a Leesburg catering company. He formerly worked for Flutes of Georgetown & Co. where he was reponsible for special events. American Mobile Satellite Corp. has appointed Randy S. Segal vice president, general counsel and secretary. Formerly, Ms. Segal worked for the New York law firm of Debevoise & Plimpton. Patrice Carroll and Ellie Luce were named vice presidents in the systems engineering department at MCI Communications Corp. Ms. Carroll, director of special services application development, was named vice president of the intelligent services network, succeeding Mike Consiglio, who was named vice president of global systems development. Ms. Luce, director of network engineering systems, was named vice president of network systems, succeeding Les Lichter, who was recently named vice president of systems engineering production services. Aerospace Industries Association named Laurie Adler manager of international affairs. She will be responsible for monitoring international trade issues affecting aerospace. Joseph S. Miller was named vice president of the income and property division of Bethesda's Banc One Mortgage Corp. He will be responsible of commercial mortgages in the mid-Atlantic region. Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell of Bethesda named Thomas F. Murphy and Ronald S. Jaffe managers of the firm. Ida Post, Sheryl Dodge, Jeffrey Terry, and Lori Henry have joined the Washington accounting staff of McQuade & Capron. Matthew Peterman has joined the accounting staff in McLean. David B.
