In one scam, the caller identifies himself as a state trooper and indicates he is raising funds for the State Police. In another, the scam artist calls local businesses requesting money for an accident victim known to the person called. Police received one report in Arlington, four in Fairfax and one in Prince William County of a police impersonator calling a local business requesting money, saying that the company president or executive officer has been involved in an accident or caught speeding and needs money wired as soon as possible. The amount requested is generally between $250 and $500.
