Africa Date: Mon, 26 Oct 92 14:37:03 EST Message-ID: \SE A;WORLD \SS (WS) \HD Unidentified gunmen kill 20 Zulus in S. Africa \BY REUTERS \DT JOHANNESBURG JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - Gunmen with automatic rifles killed 20 persons in a raid on a black homestead in South Africa as a weekend of violence brought fresh calls for talks between the country's two main black leaders. Police spokesman Coert Marais said four women and two children were among those killed when 15 men with AK-47 assault rifles attacked Zulus late Saturday night as they held traditional celebrations at Folweni in Natal province. Twenty-seven persons were wounded in the attack. "According to my information, they were Inkatha people that were killed," Mr. Marais told reporters. It was not immediately known who was responsible for the killings at Folweni, near the port city of Durban. A spokesman for Law and Order Minister Hernus Kriel said yesterday that the minister was concerned about increasing political violence, which has killed 2,700 people this year. The government and police, the spokesman said, would like to see Nelson Mandela, president of the African National Congress, and Mangosuthu Buthelezi, leader of the Zulu Inkatha Freedom Party, meet to tackle the problem. "It's clear that the violence needs a political solution," the Law and Order Ministry said in a statement carried by the South African Press Association.
