Superior Court jury rejected the insanity defense of the man known as the Capitol Hill rapist and convicted him of raping four women in their homes in May and June 1991. David G. Garmon claimed to be a "sexual sadist" who could not control his recurrent sexual urges to inflict pain and humiliation on women. But jurors convicted him on all 20 counts he faced, including rape, sodomy, burglary and theft, after two hours of deliberations yesterday. Prosecutors said Garmon crept into the women's apartments while they slept, threatened them at knifepoint and raped them. He then led his victims to their bathrooms, where he made them clean up to get rid of any physical evidence. S=NEW STORY Still no verdict in Gomez trial Jurors in the assault trial of Daniel Enrique Gomez ended their second day of deliberations yesterday without reaching a verdict. They will return to D.C. Superior Court to resume deliberations Monday. Mr. Gomez is charged with assaulting two police officers on May 5, 1991, and he was shot in the chest by one who said he came at her with a knife. Mr. Gomez said he was handcuffed and unarmed when he was shot. "I'm tired," said Mr. Gomez, 31, as he left court yesterday. Hispanic leaders who also waited yesterday in the courthouse corridors have said the community is anxious about the verdict, but they do not expect violence. "All Latinos are on trial here," said Pedro Aviles of the D.C. Latino Civil Rights Task Force. He said Hispanic leaders have developed a contingency plan to keep peace in heavily populated Hispanic neighborhoods if violence breaks out after the verdict.
