Method: Electrocution Crime: Cornelius Singleton, 36, was convicted in 1981 of beating and strangling Sister Ann Hogan in a Mobile cemetery where she went to pray on Nov. 12, 1977. Prosecutors said Singleton took her watch and other articles when he beat and strangled her, then tried to hide the body beneath some debris. Appeals: The U.S. Supreme Court, by a 6-3 vote Thursday, refused to stop the execution. Justices Harry Blackmun, John Paul Stevens and David Souter dissented. Last words: "Let Mama know I still love her," Singleton said to his oldest brother, Lavon Singleton. "Keep that chin up."
