Mr. Walston, 78, is curmudgeon Judge Bones on the CBS show "Picket Fences" and an elderly farmhand in the movie "Of Mice and Men." He said he regrets not having a bigger career. "I can kick myself now for not having a plan," Mr. Walston said in the Nov. 30 issue of People magazine. He said he's still amazed by the popularity of "My Favorite Martian," the 1960s television series about a reporter, played by Bill Bixby, and his extraterrestrial "Uncle Martin." Mr. Walston said he auditioned and accepted the role for the money. But after just four episodes, he recalled, "I thought: 'What am I doing here? I'm running around with two pieces of wire coming out of my head. I must be crazy.'" This article is copyright 1992 The Washington Times.
