"I want to see the situation with my own eyes and meet the people. What else can I do but meet the people?" Mr. Wiesel said from his Manhattan office. Mr. Wiesel, 64, did not want the date of his arrival published for security reasons but said he will be going this week. He plans to spend four or five days in the former Yugoslav republic where Serbian rebels are trying to create an independent state. He said he was invited to the country first by the former president of Yugoslavia and since then by other officials. This article is copyright 1992 The Washington Times.
