Let's get a few things straight. No. 1, the FBI did not investigate the smear on my daughter, as reported on CNN. . . . The only thing the FBI investigated was the alleged wiretap, and it's still under investigation; it has not been completed. . . . Now let's go to the five men coming across my front yard in an effort to possibly kill my family back during the Vietnam War. I told them [ABC News] that story happened. . . . When the story was run, neither . . . confirmation was ever aired. . . . Now what this has to do with anything current I don't know, except ABC's death wish to inaccurately report a story. . . . Now then, let's go over to this second one, the smear on my daughter. . . . I find it fascinating that CNN would run a story this morning - wondering why I brought it up yesterday at the last minute. I brought it up to my volunteers yesterday because "60 Minutes" was going to run it last night. I didn't want "60 Minutes" to run it. . . . I made it clear to "60 Minutes" in my interview that I could not prove that this occurred, but I had these multiple reports and it was a risk I could not take . . . I first got a report from a prominent Republican that the Republicans had had a meeting - I was leading, or near the top at the polls - and the gist of the meeting was: We have hit him with everything we have and he just keeps on coming. Isn't this guy sensitive to anything? And one person in the meeting said well, he adores his family. Shortly thereafter, I received a warning call from a person saying, "I don't know if they're going to do anything or not, but I just wanted to alert you." . . . A couple of weeks later, I got this report from a fellow in Arizona, through an intermediary, saying he had seen a doctored photograph that they were going to give the tabloids to smear my daughter before her wedding, and that they were going to disrupt the wedding in the church. Then I got a third report from another prominent Republican who gave me the identical story about the picture and disrupting the wedding. I had no absolute proof, I just had three reports. . . . The rest of the family knew about it, my close associates knew about it. If you need confirmation, I think at this point in my life I'll ask you how many you want, and then I'll give you the names. . . . I don't know how many I have to give you before you ignore the confirmations that ruin the story and don't even put them on the air. . . . The day I dropped out I got a call from the president of the United States, who wanted to meet immediately and wanted me to try to get all my volunteers to support the Republican Party. I explained to him over the phone that my volunteers were not robots . . . and the only way the Republican Party could get their support was to earn their support. . . . He wanted to have a meeting. . . . He suggested a person that if I had anything I wanted to put on the agenda to call. That person called me, I told him - I said: "There's one thing that's going right at the top of the agenda, and that is this plan to smear my daughter at her wedding. And we're not going to talk about anything till he and I get eye-to-eye and talk about that." A few days later they canceled the meeting. Nobody ever responded on that issue. . . . Weeks ago, I informed the Republicans of . . . the alleged wiretap incident. At the highest levels. And I find it fascinating nobody ever did the courtesy to call me back and say: "Gee, Ross, we dug into that. We didn't do it." Never heard a word. At a time when the reason they were talking to me was they wanted millions of people who supported me to join them. . . . As you run your bizarre stories and your twisted, slanted stories, just remember that on multiple occasions, the Republican Party had a chance to look me in the eye and say, "Ross, after you told us about this, we looked into it, and there's not a word of truth to it." Nobody ever brought it up. Meetings were canceled. People walked away. . . . We've got two incidents here . . . that you all are fascinated with, and it's a sad commentary, because the people are not fascinated with this. They're fascinated with the issues that determine their lives, their jobs, their children's futures. . . . It has nothing to do with the presidential campaign. I mean, if you want to know if I'm telling the truth, I've given you multiple reputable people. You're pursuing this like I just stole money from the U.S. . . . I find it fascinating. You'll pursue this story with far greater intensity than you will stories where billions of dollars of taxpayers' money were wasted on Saddam Hussein. I don't understand your priorities . . . I am not going to waste any more time on trying to satisfy you on every little level of curiosity you may have about it. . . . I am sick and tired of you all questioning my integrity without a basis for it. I am sick and tired of you ignoring the people who can confirm the articles when you print or run your stories.
