At what may be the last weekly news conference of the match, he was asked which country he intended to visit when he left Yugoslavia. He laughingly replied: "Well, assuming I leave, eventually . . . it must be Hungary; it's the only way out." Mr. Fischer said at a previous news conference that he was having a good time in Yugoslavia. He has a large following here that dates from 1959, when, at age 15, he qualified as a grandmaster from the World Championship Interzonal tournament at Portoroz. His career also included top-level tournaments at Bled in 1961, Skopje in 1967, Vinkovci in 1968, and Rovinj, Zagreb and Belgrade in 1970. By the time he won the world championship from Mr. Spassky at Reykjavik, Iceland, in 1972, Mr. Fischer had spent a total of 13 months in Yugoslavia. The former prodigy, now 49, disclosed he kept a file of ideas for new chess openings in his head but said he tried not to write any of them down "because of espionage." He said it was possible computers eventually would play the game better than humans, "at least, as the rules are today." In the match, Mr. Fischer leads by eight victories to four and is only two away from the $3.5 million winner's purse. The loser will walk away with $1.5 million.
