Federal prosecutors said 14 defendants have been named in a racketeering indictment for killing four persons, drug trafficking and stealing millions of dollars worth of merchandise in armed robberies in New York and New Jersey. James Fox, who heads the FBI's New York office, said at a news conference that the group was "extremely violent" and used the stolen vehicles as "battering rams" to break into posh shops - some on New York's Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue. The defendants allegedly used this method to steal suits and coats from Lanvin Men's Boutique, watches from Tourneau Corner and furs from Antonovich. Mr. Fox said the group, which authorities have named the "cash and carry gang," is believed to have participated in some 700 to 800 robberies that included art galleries in Soho and individual residences. The indictment alleges that the gang was controlled by two brothers, Robin and Rene Tellier, who are currently in prison on other charges. S=NEW STORY Homosexual dismissed from ROTC program ORONO, Maine - A University of Maine student who informed his Air Force ROTC commanders about his homosexuality was dismissed from the program yesterday. Neal Snow, a senior psychology major from Sebago, said he did not reveal his homosexuality last month to challenge the military's ban. "I decided being true to myself and educating other people was more important than a career in the military," Mr. Snow said. University of Maine spokesman John Diamond said the school would lobby against the Defense Department policy barring homosexuals. The Faculty Senate plans to consider a resolution today calling for the university to disassociate itself from the ROTC program if the ban on homosexuals is not dropped by 1994.
