About 200 people, more than half the population of Lodgepole, attended a community meeting Monday for Debbie Bond, who decided to go public because she thought she could educate her community. "I decided to tell everyone I have AIDS because I want to make a difference," Mrs. Bond said at a news conference Tuesday. "These are my friends and neighbors. . . . I care about them." Mrs. Bond, a farm wife, contracted the disease through a blood transfusion 10 years ago at a hospital in Denver. She suffered from constant fatigue the last few years. She found out in July that she has AIDS. Her husband, Ralph, and their children - Bryan, 18, Kristie, 13, and Robin, 10 - have tested negative. At the community meeting, two psychologists and a community health nurse joined Mrs. Bond to answer questions. "Most of the questions were about how to offer support to the Bonds," said Dr. Patty Vigil, one of the psychologists. S=NEW STORY After 8 generations, family finally has girl PORTAGE, Ind. - Sara Lynette Kobitz is just 2 days old, but she's already made inroads into a male-dominated area. She's the first girl born to the Kobitz family in at least eight generations. "I deal with a lot of birth and death statistics and have never seen this happen. Waiting four or five generations is rare," said Jerry McKibben, a demographer for the Indiana University School of Business in Indianapolis. "Eight generations is one for the record books," he said. Sara was born Monday to Melissa and John Kobitz of Portage. Sara has a brother, Adam, 3. Sara is already being stocked with frilly pink dresses, something the family has wanted to do for generations. John's mother, Charlene Kobitz, helped trace her husband's lineage back to the early 19th century. She said every Kobitz born since has been a boy.
