Judge Conrad Waters sentenced him to six months in jail and fined him $1,000 for telling police he saw Bruce and Christine Krombholz, a young married couple, at the scene of the murder of a 7-Eleven clerk in early September. Mr. Abedi's story was convincing enough for police to arrest the Krombholzes for the murder of Mohammed Kayani. But a few days later, police questioned him again and asked him to take a polygraph, which he failed. He later admitted he made the story up. S=NEW STORY Unemployment reaches 10-year high Virginia's unemployment total for September hit a 10-year high for the month, but still was below the national average, the Virginia Employment Commission reported Friday. The September jobless rate of 6.2 percent was the highest for September since 1982, when the rate was 7.6 percent. Unemployment rose from 5.3 percent in September 1991.
