The project includes a new roadway, sidewalk improvements and new sewer lines. Pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained and bus service will continue on regular routes. The Backlick Road flyover in Fairfax County will open this week, providing direct access to Backlick Road south from Interstate 95 conventional lanes southbound. Here are some highway construction projects to look for this week: VIRGINIA Fairfax County * Interstate 495 (the Capital Beltway): One lane of the George Washington Memorial Parkway over I-495 will close from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. One lane on the east exit ramp to Interstate 395 north will close midday. * Interstate 395: Crews will make deck repairs on the Route 1 bridge southbound. One lane will close from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. * Interstate 66: One eastbound lane from I-495 to Route 50 will close from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and one westbound lane will close from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Expect midday lane closures between the Fairfax County Parkway and Route 50. Work continues on high-occupancy-vehicle (HOV) lanes from the Beltway to Route 50. * Interstate 95: Construction continues on HOV lanes from Springfield to Quantico. The right lane northbound from Route 1 to Lorton will close from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays. Expect midday lane closures between the Beltway and Route 1 and at the I-495 interchange. A lane on the south ramp to I-395 north will close midday. * Route 1: One southbound lane will close at night. * Route 123: Work continues between Judicial Drive and University Drive. * West Ox Road: Work continues between Monument Drive and Route 29. * Route 7: Expect lane closures between West Street and I-66. Prince William County * I-95: Two southbound lanes will close between Stafford County and Quantico at night. Watch for bridge construction in both directions over Powells Creek and southbound over Quantico Creek. * Route 600: Mountain Road will close from Cheal Court to Loudoun Drive beginning tomorrow. MARYLAND Prince George's County * Baltimore-Washington Parkway: Expect delays and lane closures southbound from Route 100 to Route 32. * Route 50: Lanes shift at Route 3/301. * Central Avenue: Expect lane closures during off-peak hours from Brightseat Road to west of Campus Way. Anne Arundel County * Route 50: Expect lane closures both ways from the Patuxent to the Severn rivers. DISTRICT * Kenilworth Avenue: Watch for construction from Benning Road to Eastern Avenue. Two lanes close in one direction on weekends and one lane closes weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., beginning with inbound lanes. * Monroe Street NE: Expect off-peak lane closures from 14th to 20th streets. * Alabama Avenue: Resurfacing continues from Hartford to 22nd streets. * Kennedy Street NW: One lane only from North Capitol Street to Georgia Avenue during nonrush hours. * Montello Avenue NE: Expect off-peak lane closures from Penn Street to Holbrook Terrace. * Florida Avenue NE: Expect lane closures from Third Street NE to New York Avenue during nonrush hours.
