Edward Lee Boyer, 74, a retired logistician with the Army, died of cancer and pneumonia Nov. 2 at Walter Reed Army General Hospital. Col. Boyer, a native of Ottawa, Canada, spent his childhood at Army posts in the Phillipines, Europe and Japan, where his father was an Army surgeon. He graduated from the University of Maryland and later received a master's degree from Hamilton State University. He also graduated from the Army War College. He served with the Army during World War II, participating in the Italian campaign. He then began a long civilian career as a logistician with the Army Materiel Command. He remained in the Army Reserve until 1975. In 1973 he retired in Arlington, where he was active in many volunteer organizations. He served as business manager and membership secretary of the Council on America's Military Past and as secretary-treasurer of the Friends of Fort Ward, and was active in the Army Materiel Command Retirees Association. He also served as the full-time volunteer librarian at the Capitol Hill headquarters of the Reserve Officers Association, of which he was a life member, and as a volunteer deputy sheriff with the Arlington sheriff's office. He was a past commodore of the South River Yacht Club in Annapolis. Col. Boyer received a number of military awards, including the Bronze Star and three campaign stars for his service in World War II. His first wife, Virginia, died in 1984. Survivors include his wife, Dolores of Burke; two stepdaughters, Kimberly Jean Gell of Burke and Patricia Colleen Moffett of Kensington; and two sisters, Joan Nasca of Rochester, N.Y. and Inez Patricia Sloyan of Arlington Viewing will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at DeMaine Funeral Home in Springfield, with a memorial service there at 7 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Fort Myer Old Chapel, with burial following at Arlington National Cemetery. This article is copyright 1992 The Washington Times.
