Police said the child was playing in the 4900 block of Donovan Place around 5 p.m. Friday when he was attacked. They have not identified the boy. The boy underwent three hours of surgery Friday for what police called "severe facial injuries" that may include some nerve damage. S=NEW STORY Laurel man found dead in apartment An unidentified man was found shot to death in his apartment in the 9500 block of Muirkirk Road in Laurel yesterday. After receiving an anonymous tip about 10:51 a.m., police went to the apartment, where they found the door unlocked and the victim dead, shot twice in the head. The body was taken to the medical examiner's office in Baltimore. Police have no suspects. S=NEW STORY Feds derail plans to upgrade MARC Maryland's plans to upgrade and expand the state's commuter rail system with new locomotives and cars has been stymied by the federal government, which is providing $50 million less than promised for the project. The new equipment is intended to ease delays and overcrowding along the Maryland Rail Commuter system, which serves about 19,500 people daily. The federal government last year authorized $60 million for MARC, but under an appropriation approved by Congress and President Bush for the fiscal year that began Oct. 1, Maryland will receive only $10 million.
