The Wings, who beat Washington 7-5 last Friday and trampled Tampa Bay 10-5 on Monday, also set a team record for goals in three games with 28, breaking a record set in 1945. The 21 goals in two games tied a record for back-to-back games, also set in 1945. At one point, Detroit scored six times in nine shots while picking up their sixth win in seven games. The Blues matched their team record for goals allowed, set in 1973 against Montreal. The Red Wings took a 2-0 in the first on goals by Paul Ysebaert and Jimmy Carson, then outscored the Blues 6-2 in the second period. Sergei Fedorov scored his 11th just 40 seconds into the period and Bob Probert made it 4-0 with his sixth at 6:26. Both goals came off quick passes from behind the net. Brett Hull scored his 11th of the season at 7:45 on St. Louis' first shot of the period, deking Tim Cheveldae to the ice, then flipping the puck over him. But Jimmy Carson got his 15th and Dino Ciccarelli his 10th to make it 6-1 at 14:56. Blues defenseman Garth Butcher made it 6-2 at 17:44, but Probert and Ciccarelli scored in the last two minutes of the period for a six-goal margin.
